Barre des Ecrins (4102 m), south pillar

The "Vertical Ecology" project aims at understanding the past history of cushion plants in high mountains since the last glaciation. Since a few years we sample plants in the main south faces of the Ecrins range. The south pillar of Barre des Ecrins is a great alpinism route, 1200 meters of rock, mainly in III/IV, with a little bit of V/V+. As we had to pick up plants, we spent to days in this huge mountain with Cédric, botanist at the Ecrins National Park.
